About Us

Our Mommie Village is a nonprofit organization that helps community moms in Buffalo, New York during their birth through postpartum experience. Our Mommie Village serves as a hub of resources and services that aid in healthy recovery and a smooth transition into motherhood. Black and brown mothers and their babies die at a disproportionate rate than white moms and babies.

Our Mommie Village is addressing these mostly preventable deaths by providing a more holistic approach to prenatal care and beyond. This model has a combination of one on one and group model care. Our Mommie Village provides personalized care plans that support the mother and her plans once the baby has arrived.

OUR MISSION

Our Mommie Village exists to ensure all mothers have access to the support and services they need to be well from birth through postpartum recovery.

Our Values

Our Mommie Village focuses on the eight areas of wellness to create personalized care plans, they are as follows: physical, spiritual, emotional, environmental, financial, occupational, intellectual, and social.

Our Why

Picture
Black and brown mothers and their babies die at a disproportionately higher rate than others. Our Mommie Village refuses to let that be the status quo by making advocacy, education, and holistic care within reach for mothers that are often marginalized and lost in traditional health systems and under-supported motherhood. To nurture the village, we provide regular opportunities for mothers to gather for social support, learning experiences, and coaching.

Shyana has worked with children and families for over fifteen years. She has always had a passion for birth since she was very young. It wasn't until the birth of her daughter did she find her place in the world fighting for birth equity for all. Shyana is looking forward to working side by side with amazing leaders in the community such as the class of 2018 Emerging Leaders that have their stories to tell. Building relationships with community is what she enjoys most and by the end of the leadership course, she will be ready to take Buffalo by storm.
